being gay is a blessing and a curse. the kinship, strength, and vibrancy of the queer community inspires me every day; i've also spent years trying to understand (let alone accept) my own identity. self-hate, shame, and fear marred my early adolescence, and developing a positive self image is an unending process. i stumbled out of the closet three years ago (almost to the day!) and as college decisions now roll in, i have the privilege of looking back and admiring just how far i've come. memories of “yes on prop. 8” signs on my neighbor's lawn, pretending to have crushes on girls, listening to lady gaga at an unreasonably quiet volume so no one else in my middle school carpool could hear it, and fervently denying rumors spreading through my class remain fresh in my mind. and when i recall them, i can't help but wonder how many of them would remain if i had heard stories of my lgbt+ peers and elders during my most troubled times. the hashtag #visibleme is providing that opportunity to millions of youth. so to whom it may concern, keep your head up

A few months ago, I launched what has now become the most meaningful project in my life: #VisibleMe. #VisibleMe is dedicated to making the (in)visible visible by shining a spotlight on diverse, compelling stories from LGBTQ youth all around the world. People are more likely to support the LGBTQ community when they know someone who identifies as LGBTQ, so I hope this project provides a platform and voice to young people, helping them feel empowered and supported. And most importantly, I hope it shows LGBTQ youth that they are not alone and that they're part of a community filled with creativity, diversity, resilience, strength, and passion. I'm so excited to share that we're now launching #VisibleMe video to offer another avenue for people to express themselves. I encourage you to explore the hashtag #VisibleMe and check out Facebook.com/VisibleMe. Thank you to everyone who supports this project. Much love.

Yay! I'm so honored and proud to be a part of @raymondbraun 's #VisibleMe project to highlight voices from LGBTQ youth! It's so important to share stories and support one another. So, what's your story?
