Cientos de personas de se han tatuado en los últimos días una abeja, el símbolo de resistencia y laboriosidad de esta ciudad inglesa que está de luto por el atentado del lunes.

"Tenía ganas de hacer algo que resumiera como nos sentimos todos" explicó este viernes a la AFP Naomi Johnson, una neuróloga de 32 años, en un estudio de tatuajes llamado Tattitude.

Su abeja va acompañada por la leyenda "Stay strong our kid", "sé fuerte, muchacho nuestro", una expresión local.

"Manchester es una ciudad única, la abeja significa que trabajamos duro, que aguantamos y somos solidarios", dijo en referencia a la cultura obrera de la ciudad.

"La abeja es el símbolo de la gente que trabaja duro, pero también de la que se mantiene unida", añadió.

Manchester adoptó como símbolo a este insecto durante la Revolución Industrial, que transformó la ciudad de pequeña localidad de provincias a uno de los centros económicos del mundo.

El lunes, 22 personas murieron y decenas resultaron heridas cuando un kamikaze hizo estallar una bomba en el pabellón Manchester Arena, al término de un concierto de Ariana Grande.

Un dibujante de tatuajes de la ciudad quiso ayudar, y propuso tatuar la abeja a cambio de 50 libras que serían destinadas al fondo de ayuda a las víctimas. Otros estudios siguieron su ejemplo.

Jordon, de 28 años, que le dibujó la abeja a Naomi en la pierna, explicó que la demanda era altísima y que llevaba bastantes horas extras. "Voy a venir a trabajar en mis días de descanso", aseguró.
