Emmys: hora, canal y todo sobre la gala de la televisión

Debieron entregarse en septiembre último, pero las huelgas de actores y guionistas de Hollywood se interpusieron. Los Premios de la Academia Nacional de Artes y Ciencias de la Televisión, los Emmys 2023, se entregan por fin este lunes 15 de enero y difícilmente habrá sorpresas. Pero eso no hará que la gala sea menos emocionante para los involucrados.

Se espera que la serie que triunfe a lo grande sea “Succession” (HBO Max), que lidera con un total de 27 nominaciones. La saga de la billonaria familia Roy ha gustado tanto a la Academia que su elenco casi acapara categorías enteras, como Mejor actor de reparto en drama, donde compiten un total de cuatro personas: Alan Ruck, Matthew Mac Fadyen, Nicholas Braun y Alexander Skarsgard. En Mejor actor de drama son tres quienes compiten: Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin y Jeremy Strong. También compite por Mejor actriz de drama con Sarah Snook, Mejor actriz de reparto en drama con J. Smith-Cameron, Mejor serie de drama, Mejor guion de drama, etc.

Con el favoritismo inclinado hacia “Succession”, está difícil que el premio mayor sea para “Better Call Saul” (AMC), una de las series más aclamadas que jamás en sus seis temporadas lo ha ganado. En sí, la gran ganadora en las nominaciones ha sido HBO, porque además sus dramas “The Last of Us” y “The White Lotus” han conseguido 24 y 23 nominaciones, respectivamente. La primera es adaptación de un videojuego postapocalíptico de PlayStation, donde compiten sus protagonistas Pedro Pascal a Mejor actor de drama y Bella Ramsey a Mejor actriz de drama. La serie, además, se llevó ocho Emmys creativos en una gala previa, donde Nick Offerman ganó el premio a Mejor actor invitado. “The White Lotus” por su parte ganó en la misma gala el premio a Mejor música y todavía puede llevase otros en la gala principal.

¿Más competidores para ese galardón? “Andor” (Disney+), serie de la saga Star Wars protagonizada por el mexicano Diego Luna; “La Casa del Dragon” (HBO Max), precuela de “Juego de tronos”, “Yellowjackets” (Paramount+), que sigue a las sobrevivientes de un accidente aéreo años, y “The Crown” (Netflix), la historia de la familia real británica. Esta última serie compite por la quinta temporada, no por la sexta que estrenó sus episodios finales en diciembre.

En comedia las nominaciones mayores son para otras plataformas en su mayoría. Por su última temporada “Ted Lasso” (Apple TV+) tiene un total de 21 nominaciones incluyendo Mejor actor a Jason Sudeikis, Mejor actriz de reparto a Juno Temple, etc. Por su parte tiene 14 nominaciones “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Prime Video), incluyendo Mejor actriz para Rachel Brosnahan y Mejor actriz de reparto para Alex Borstein. Aunque quizás la favorita sea “The Bear” (FX) con sus 13 nominaciones, que sigue a un chef de alta cocina que regresa a su ciudad natal para administrar la sanguchería de la familia. Por esta serie, que triunfó en los Globos de oro, está nominado Jeremy Allen White a Mejor actor, mientras que Ayo Edebiri compite a Mejor actriz de reparto. Tampoco podemos ignorar a las series nominadas “Abbott Elementary” (Star+), que sigue a maestros sacrificados en un colegio estatal; “Barry” (HBO Max), sobre un sicario con vena artística; “Jury Duty” (Prime Video), que pone a una persona normal en una circunstancia insólita; “Solo asesinatos en el edificio”, que combina misterio con crímenes; y el éxito global “Merlina” (Netflix), que recuperó a “Los locos Addams” para la nueva generación.

¿Algo más a considerar? “Bronca” (Netflix), serie de Netflix que triunfó en los Globos de oro sobre dos personas cuyas vidas se cruzan en una situación de violencia. Odio a primera vista que promete ganar el premio a Mejor serie limitada.
