El presidente de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino, se ha pronunciado de manera enérgica sobre los lamentables hechos de violencia que llevaron a la cancelación del partido entre Independiente y Universidad de Chile por la Copa Sudamericana. A través de un comunicado oficial, el máximo dirigente del fútbol mundial condenó los incidentes y exigió sanciones severas para los responsables.
