El gigante tecnológico japonés anunció el lanzamiento el próximo 11 de enero de Aibo, un nuevo doméstico con forma de perro y capaz de crear conexiones emocionales con las personas, 12 años después de abandonar el sector de la robótica doméstica.

La mascota artificial mantendrá el nombre de su predecesor Aibo, un pionero perro robot, que Sony sacó a la venta en 1999, y cuya fabricación detuvo en 2006.

El nuevo Aibo incorporará los últimos avances de la robótica, incluyendo varios sensores, una cámara situada en su nariz y ojos tipo led, con el fin de hacer sus movimientos y expresiones más naturales, según informó la propia compañía a través de un comunicado.

Además de dar afecto a sus dueños, el robot será capaz de aprender nuevas palabras, gestos y ordenes y responderá a estas a través de un sistema de inteligencia artificial en la nube, que le permitirá desarrollar una personalidad única.

Según la empresa nipona, la inteligencia y curiosidad del perro-robot fomentarán la creación de "conexiones emocionales profundas", así como de recuerdos "para toda una vida".

En cuanto a su aspecto, el nuevo Aibo tiene formas redondeadas, expresivos ojos verdes y orejas y cola de color marrón, una imagen más natural que la de sus predecesores, de color plateado, y con formas marcadas.

Junto a la mascota artificial, Sony también lanzará una aplicación móvil para que los usuarios puedan enseñar trucos a su Aibo, así como accesorios para que este pueda jugar, como el "aibone" (un aparato en forma de hueso).

Con el lanzamiento de este tipo de robot, Sony sigue los pasos de otras empresas niponas como el gigante de las telecomunicaciones Softbank, que sacó al mercado al androide Pepper en junio de 2015, y vuelve a apostar además por la innovación tras años de reestructuración.

El anuncio llegó un día después de que Sony anunciara que prevé en 2017 los mayores beneficios de su historia lo que disparó sus acciones en la Bolsa de Tokio.

Sony había vendido más de 150.000 ejemplares del primer Aibo entre 1999 y 2006, año en que dejó de fabricar por razones financieras ese objeto frívolo de lujo.

El primer Aibo costaba unos 250.000 yenes, el equivalente de unos 2.000 dólares en junio de 1999, cuando comenzó a venderse.

El nuevo Aibo costará 198.000 yenes (alrededor de 1.750 dólares).
