Robert Prevost ha sido electo como el nuevo Papa tras el deceso de Jorge Mario Bergoglio (Francisco). Decidió llamarse León XIV y tiene nacionalidad peruana, aunque nació en Estados Unidos.

Prevost realizó diversas labores en nuestro país durante muchos años en los que desarrolló un fuerte vínculo.

Por ello, la Federación Peruana de Fútbol no perdió la oportunidad de saludar la elección del nuevo Papa.
